United States President Donald Trump has stated that China and Russia are not supplying weapons to Iran, emphasizing that he has personally received this guarantee from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
According to Trump, during the recent meeting in Beijing, Xi Jinping promised him that neither the Chinese state nor Chinese companies would give or sell weapons to the Islamic Republic of Iran under any circumstances. The US president said he believed this promise, underlining that the relationship between the two countries is such that the Chinese leader's word is credible. He also added that the United States is doing China "big favors."
Trump stated that he received the same position from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who, according to him, has informed him that Moscow has no intention of selling weapons to Tehran, despite international tensions and the war in Ukraine.
The US president stressed that Russia is aware that the US is not directly supplying Ukraine with weapons, but sells them to NATO member countries, which then decide on their own use and transfer.
According to Trump, the two powers most often mentioned as Iran's allies, China and Russia, are not involved in Tehran's military supply. He warned that such a move would be "very bad" for both countries and would not be in their interest.
The US president's statements come at a time when Iran has announced that it is holding daily consultations with China and Russia regarding the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel.
