At least 46 people have been arrested on suspicion of arson, while 91 others have been prosecuted across the country.
State Police
State Police structures throughout the country, throughout the months of June, July and until today, have been maximally committed to identifying, capturing and arresting the perpetrators of arson.
From June to August 14, Police structures have identified 137 arsonists, of whom 46 have been arrested, while 91 have been criminally prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the National Security Forces, the "Eagle" Special Forces, the General Patrols and the Operational Forces, under the direction of the heads of the regions and the General Directorate of the State Police, continue to be on the ground, assisting in the evacuation of residents and supporting Civil Emergencies and firefighters in extinguishing the flames.
The operational structures of the State Police are controlling and monitoring the areas with drones, to identify in time the people who cause fires, burning private property, homes, forests, pastures and, in many cases, seriously endangering the lives of residents, Police employees, firefighters and Civil Emergencies.
The State Police appeals to all residents not to cause fires. Livestock keepers and farmers are responsible for the lands and pastures they own or use.
Call to all residents: do not light fires to burn agricultural waste or to clean up the territory, without notifying and taking measures with the responsible authorities.
Causing a fire, intentionally or through negligence, is a criminal offense and the State Police is working, in collaboration with residents, to identify, capture and arrest all those who cause fires.
