The flames that started in the territory of the Municipality of Delvinë have engulfed the entire Sopot mountain and have now spread to the area of the Municipality of Gjirokastra. The fire, fueled by strong winds and the drought of recent days, is posing a high risk to the city of Gjirokastra and the village of Lazarat.
Gjirokastra's firefighting forces are engaged in an intensive operation to extinguish the flames, supported by residents of Lazarat, who are actively participating in efforts to stop the spread of the fire.
The situation remains critical and every minute is crucial, while authorities warn that the spread of the flames could continue if weather conditions do not improve. The firefighting operation is still underway.
