Price increases push August inflation to 2.3%! How food and rents affected

The overall price level experienced an annual increase of 2.3% in August, a slightly slower pace than July's 2.5%. The highest impact on last month's inflation was provided by food and rent prices.

The annual price increase in August was mainly influenced by the group "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" with +0.85 percentage points, followed by the group "Rent, water, fuel and energy" with +0.63 percentage points.

Also, the prices of the group “Furniture, home appliances and home maintenance” affected by +0.21 percentage points, the prices of the group “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” by +0.16 percentage points, the prices of the group “Entertainment and culture” by +0.14 percentage points. The prices of the group “Hotels, cafes and restaurants” affected by +0.13 percentage points, the prices of the group “Miscellaneous goods and services” by +0.07 percentage points, the prices of the groups “Transport” and “Communication” by +0.03 percentage points each, the prices of the groups “Clothing and footwear” and “Educational services” by +0.02 percentage points each and the prices of the group “Health” by +0.01 percentage points.

Compared to August 2024, the largest price increase is observed in the group "Entertainment and culture" by 6.3%, followed by the groups "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" by 3.3%, "Rent, water, fuel and energy" by 3.1%, "Furniture, household equipment and home maintenance" by 2.8%, "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" by 2.5%, "Hotels, cafes and restaurants" by 2.2%, "Communication" and "Miscellaneous goods and services" by 1.2% each. "Educational services" increased by 0.7%, "Clothing and footwear" by 0.6%, "Transport" by 0.5% and "Health" by 0.4%.

Within the food group, the prices of the subgroup "Oils and fats" increased by 6.5%, followed by the subgroups "Milk, cheese and eggs" by 3.6%, "Meat" by 3.2%, "Fish" by 2.4%, "Fruit" by 2.1%, "Vegetables including potatoes" by 1.3%, etc.

Compared to July 2025, prices of the groups "Rent, water, fuel and energy", "Entertainment and culture" and "Hotels, cafes and restaurants" increased by 0.5% each, followed by the groups "Furniture, household equipment and home maintenance" by 0.4%, "Food and non-alcoholic beverages", "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" and "Clothing and footwear" by 0.3% each, "Transport" by 0.2%, "Health", "Communication" and "Miscellaneous goods and services" by 0.1% each./Monitor
