The incident that occurred in the village of Rëmbec in Maliq, initially reported as an accident caused by a horse being hit, has taken another course of investigation. The death of 58-year-old Jorgo Ajredini has raised strong suspicions of a criminal scenario, following the claims of his family, who deny the version of the accident and accuse that the victim was hit by a fellow villager with whom he had a conflict. Ajredini was found on August 13 near the village sports field, in a canal, with multiple wounds to his head, located on his forehead and behind his ears. Initially, it was reported that he had been hit by a horse, but his family insists that his wounds do not match this version.
According to their statements, a few moments before he lost consciousness, the 58-year-old said that he had been hit by a person from Pogradec, whom he described as “a short guy”. The victim's brother testified that, while Ajredini was still conscious in the hospital, he had claimed that he had not been hit by the horse, but by another person. The family members have also raised another line of investigation, claiming that the victim had had a previous conflict for family reasons with a villager, who had taken his wife and who, according to them, had hit him with an axe about a year and a half ago.
After being injured, Ajredini was initially transported to the Korça hospital and then to Tirana for more specialized treatment. He remained in a coma for 15 days, while doctors reported that he was in very serious condition. After some temporary improvements, his condition worsened again, leading to his death on September 7, 2025.
The Korça Police and Prosecutor's Office have opened a full investigation to clarify the circumstances of the death. So far, about 15 people have been accompanied and questioned, including family members and residents of the village of Rëmbec. Since the moment of the incident, the authorities have seized the security cameras installed in the area, which are now being administered and examined by experts. The joint investigation group, composed of the State Police and the Korça Prosecutor's Office, is currently awaiting the final forensic report, which is expected to determine whether the death of Jorgo Ajredini was accidental or the result of a criminal act.
The victim's relatives demand a full investigation into the incident and the punishment of the perpetrator, insisting that: "The horse did not hit him, 1000%. I want the truth. The police have done nothing so far."
