Following the vacancy left by Ferit Hoxha (who returned to Tirana to become Foreign Minister), VNA reveals his nominee to become Albania's Ambassador to the European Union.
Ms. Albana Dautllari is the name selected to head the Mission of the Republic of Albania to the EU in Brussels.
She is a career diplomat with extensive experience. Her elevation to international organizations is seen as a strategic move at this critical stage of the accession negotiations.
At the same time, the Foreign Affairs Committee will also review the candidacy of Mr. Gazmend Barbullushi for the position of Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium (resident) and Luxembourg (non-resident).
Barbullushi comes from an equally important position: he served until recently as Albania's Ambassador to Spain. He is known as one of the most stable figures in our diplomatic corps, having previously also held the position of Secretary General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The reorganization of the representation in Brussels comes at a key moment for Albania. While Ferit Hoxha left a strong mark on the UN Security Council and later on the Foreign Ministry, sending Dautllari to the EU suggests a focus on diplomacy "technicians" who know the corridors of European institutions.
The hearing at the Commission is the formal step before the decree by the President of the Republic.
