The Democratic Party (DP) parliamentary group has filed an official request for the exclusion of MP Taulant Balla from parliamentary activity for 60 days. In the letter addressed to the Secretariat for Procedures, Voting and Ethics, the Democrats argue that Balla has repeatedly used offensive and threatening language towards female MPs from their group.
According to the request, the most recent incident occurred during the plenary session the day before, where MP Elda Hoti was insulted and threatened by Balla, as she tried to take the floor. The Democrats emphasize that the situation brought an immediate reaction in the hall and a request for disciplinary action against him from the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi. In the absence of a decision, the session was interrupted twice and then continued with voting without discussion, which according to them constitutes a violation of the right to speak.
The document also mentions other cases, including the use of unparliamentary language towards MPs such as Fatmir Mediu and Albana Vokshi, describing Balla's behavior as repeated and unacceptable. The request states that Balla went so far as to address MP Mediu with the words "go away, you bastard" at the end of his speech in a plenary session.
For this reason, the DP Parliamentary Group demands the immediate imposition of the disciplinary measure "exclusion from participation in committees and plenary sessions for 60 days", arguing that this would serve to prevent similar cases and maintain ethical standards in the Assembly.
