After formalizing his candidacy in the race for president of the Democratic Party, Ervin Salianji held a roundtable with intellectuals and representatives of civil society in the capital, where political and social developments in the country were discussed.
During his speech, Salianji described this meeting as a long-missing initiative in Albania, criticizing political meetings with an electoral character and not focusing on the real concerns of citizens.
He raised concerns about the deep deformation of the political system and its consequences such as weakened institutions, decision-making that serves narrow interests, and the lack of political accountability.
"Without parties that obey the rules, we no longer have democracy. Today, acts of resignation as a sign of responsibility have disappeared, while politics seem to aim to discourage intellectuals and citizens from participating in decision-making processes," said Salianji.
He also pointed out the need for internal democracy within political parties and electoral reform. According to him, Berisha and Rama are no different from each other, while he stated that Albania cannot integrate into the EU with autocrats who privatize the party and the state.
"In many cases, due to the blockage of the system and the lack of elections, there may be an opportunity for the circulation of elites. I would like to discuss the internal democracy of political parties. There should be a legal regulation of how political parties function. It seems as if the two leaders are getting together. In the model, they are the same. We have an economic oligarchy as a consequence of that policy. The parties are remembered for justice only when personal interests are affected. Everyone is convinced that Albania will not integrate with autocrats who privatize the party and the state," Salianji further stated.
