Ervin Salianji will officially challenge Sali Berisha in the party leadership race that will take place in May. VNA sources confirm that Mr. Salianji will be an official candidate in the race announced today by the Democratic Party and that he will register to be part of it.
For several months, the former DP MP has not hidden his ambition to take a leadership role in the largest opposition party and has organized dozens of successful meetings with democrats in various cities across the country.
After these meetings, in fact, Sali Berisha declared Salianji “non grata”, describing him as a person who has crossed the “red lines” of the party. This determination is likely related precisely to the approaching election process for the new chairman of the DP, for which in fact, based on the statute, Sali Berisha should not run, since the statute of the DP clearly states that the chairman who leads the party and loses in the general elections leaves the leadership without the right to run again.
But since the DP is practically and officially the property of Sali Berisha, no one can challenge him in the property he has held for 35 years. Except for a fake candidate, which Berisha usually chooses himself, so that the race is not with a single candidate.
