In a television show, Alesia Balliu announced that in the coming days she will officially announce her candidacy for president of the Democratic Party.
She said that the decision to enter the race also comes in response to the support that, according to her, she is receiving from young people and party supporters.
"In the coming days, I will announce my candidacy for president of the Democratic Party. I have an obligation to all those young people who write to me and support me. Without a doubt, I will provide a platform and submit the documents," Balliu said.
During the interview, she emphasized that she has had a long engagement in the structures of the Democratic Party, especially in youth forums and in organizing youth in the Elbasan region.
"I was at the head of the youth forum, I was a leader for youth in the entire Elbasan region. I resigned from leadership positions in the DP, but I am a member. I don't know if any decision has been made to expel me from the DP," said Balliu.
She also made a direct criticism of Sali Berisha, stating that the Democratic Party needs a new generation of leaders.
"Sali Berisha's time is over. I don't think an 81-year-old person can keep up with the pace of time and I certainly don't see it as reasonable. Biological age does not allow Berisha to make the DP a winning party," she said.
According to Balliu, the Democratic Party needs renewal and new figures to restore the trust of the democrats.
"I am a young, uncorrupted girl and I have been a critical voice. I have the advantage of what democrats and citizens are seeking today: renewal and new figures in the DP," she said.
