The mockery he made of Aliyev and Macron over US President Donald Trump's gaffe seems to have created embarrassment for Prime Minister Edi Rama, who now uses every public appearance during EU meetings to justify it as a momentary joke.
During a dialogue in Berlin with moderator Ali Asllan, Rama said that the way he was commented on in the EU is entertaining, while in the US he attacked Trump's opponents, saying that their use of the joke shows that they have lost touch with reality.
"This is another example of how bad the Democrats are in the US because this was a friendly joke with Ilham Aliyev, because we are close friends. It was really good to see each other after so many attempts to kill each other. The fact that this friendly joke went viral in Europe is entertaining, but the fact that in the US it was used to attack the president was something that really upset me about the Democrats, because they have lost touch with reality and continue to believe that moral superiority is enough to claim that President Trump is where he is," Rama said.
It seems that the prime minister has regretted the excessive joke, especially with a gaffe related to Donald Trump, an atypical president who does not forget a single word said to his detriment. He has also shown this in other meetings, most recently with the Australian ambassador, who had criticized Trump during his first term. But the American president did not forget to return the favor to the former Australian prime minister, telling him that he did not like him as a person and would never like him.
Perhaps Rama, through his stale jokes, is also afraid of drawing attention from Trump. Therefore, he not only reacts to the international media to clarify, but also does not forget to praise his return as US president, saying that he has also saved Europe.
"If we talk about Europe, it is that I continue to believe that when Donald Trump said and continues to say; God had a plan for him and America, from the terrible attempt to kill him. I think there was a part of the truth, as God helped him save Europe as well," Rama said.
Another hypocrisy from the prime minister, who called Trump a "danger to the world" in his first term. However, we hope he understands that excessive protagonism can sometimes turn into karma, especially when you mock the president of the most powerful country in the world.
