The Assembly rejected SPAK's request to authorize the arrest of former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. With 82 votes in favor and 42 against, the socialist majority decided not to hand the socialist MP over to justice.
In the relevant Committee, the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party came up with two separate reports regarding the prosecution's request. During the plenary session, opposition MPs blocked the Parliament's rostrum and did not allow discussions to take place, protesting against the decision not to lift Balluk's immunity.
Due to tensions in the hall, at the proposal of Taulant Balla, discussions were suspended and the Assembly moved directly to voting on the draft laws provided for in the agenda.
From the ranks of the Socialists, Fatmir Xhafaj, Elisa Spiropali and Blendi Gonxhja were absent. According to information, only Gonxhja had a reason for his absence, as he is on a business trip abroad.
To reach 82 votes in favor, the Socialists were joined by three MPs from Tom Doshi's party.
Meanwhile, outside the Parliament building, supporters of the Democratic Party are protesting against the majority's decision.
