A protest took place today in front of the Oncology Hospital at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center, where citizens and activists raised their voices against the alarming situation this service is in. They denounced the lack of essential equipment and medicines for the treatment of patients with tumor diseases.
The situation at this hospital is described as critical, with a lack of vital equipment such as mammography, PET-Scan and brachytherapy services, key elements in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. In addition, there are reports of ongoing shortages of basic medicines, seriously endangering the lives of patients who do not receive the necessary treatment in time.
Protesters stressed that this situation is a consequence of deep-rooted problems and previous scandals that have engulfed this institution. Previously, the hospital was at the center of accusations of abuse by medical staff, who allegedly benefited at the expense of patients.
During the protest, journalist Osman Stafa said that it is hypocritical to talk about cancer awareness at a time when the Oncology Department lacks the most basic equipment and medications are given without following medical protocols. He brought to attention concrete cases of patients who have been waiting for vital treatments for months, while, according to him, the state has decided through reimbursement lists who will have the right to live and who will not.
