Ilir Alimehmeti seems to be still waiting for another candidate to face Sali Berisha in the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party.
In an interview with A2 CNN, he said that so far he does not know of any other candidacy, but if it exists, then it should be publicly revealed.
"The Chairman is definitely the most important body of the Democratic Party. The party itself is established and starts on June 6 because the Assembly appoints the Council. The Council then appoints the Presidency, the vice-chairmen, the secretariats, the entire organizational part. I don't know of any candidacies that have been announced to date, that have announced ambitions, that have announced a vision, a platform other than that of Dr. Sali Berisha. I don't know of any others. If there are others, we will wait for them to appear," said Alimehmeti.
In fact, the problem in the Democratic Party is not whether another candidate can be found. In politics, there is never a shortage of candidates.
The problem is that in the Democratic Party, there doesn't seem to be a real race for the presidency for a long time.
This is why the idea of “waiting for another candidate” sounds a bit paradoxical. Because even if such a candidate emerges, the question that remains is whether he is entering a real race or simply a formal process where the outcome seems known from the start.
In this sense, waiting for another candidate is more like waiting for a debate that no one planned to take place.
Because in the DP, the candidate can be found.
What is much harder to find is the competition.
