The Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, during a live broadcast with the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, provided information on the flooding situation, but avoided any concrete response regarding institutional responsibility for the problems identified by the Durrës Prosecutor's Office.
During the conversation with journalist Klodiana Lala, Vengu was asked directly about the functioning of the Porto Romano hydroelectric plant, for which the Prosecution has launched investigations for several criminal offenses, including suspicions that it has not functioned properly and that there have been serious problems with cleaning the canals and waste management.
The journalist asked the minister whether the government feels responsible for the situation and whether the floods would have been less severe if the dam had been functioning and the canals had been cleaned. Vengu refused to get to the heart of the question, stating that “this is not the time for political debate,” but for on-the-ground engagement with the affected citizens.
The debate became tense when Klodiana Lala emphasized that the Prosecutor's Office's investigation speaks with facts about the malfunction of the hydropower plant and the consequences caused. The Minister insisted that he was not avoiding responsibility, but that the priority was supporting the armed forces and intervening on the ground.
After several interruptions and verbal clashes, Pirro Vengu closed the live connection in an irritated manner, leaving the interview without providing answers about the institutional responsibilities that are being investigated by the justice authorities.
