The leader of the Mundësia Party, Agron Shehaj, seems to have developed a special allergy whenever his name is mentioned in the media next to that of Sali Berisha. And to cover up this “allergic reaction”, Shehaj does not hesitate to use the usual remedy of Albanian politics: public lying.
In yesterday's interview with News24, Shehaj was asked whether the consensus that the Democratic Party would give up a seat to his party in the electoral reform could be interpreted as a form of cooperation with Berisha. To deny this, he stated with conviction that the "consensus" was simply propaganda and deception by the DP and the SP, since according to him no agreement existed on the electoral reform.
Just a day later, reality decided to play a joke on Shehaj. The political forces formalized the agreement for the special electoral reform commission, which will consist of 16 members:
7 from the SP, 7 from the DP, and 2 representatives from parties that won at least two mandates in the May 11, 2025 elections.
So, Shehaj's party will not only be part of the commission, but will also have the right to vote, unlike Arlind Qori and Adriatik Lapaj, who will only be present, without the right to vote.
So, in less than 24 hours, the "DP and SP deception" turned out to be reality, while "Shehaj's truth" turned out to be a public deception. Now it remains to be seen how he will explain this turn of events: will he blame "media misunderstandings", or will he say that the agreement was "invented" after the interview?
In any case, it seems that Agron Shehaj has an inexplicable complex with the name Berisha. But perhaps it would be more honest to publicly admit his collaboration whenever the political situation requires it, rather than lying to hide it.
Because, after all, Berisha is not some unknown figure to him, on the contrary, an old former collaborator, who Shehaj probably still remembers from his experience in the DP.
