Pjerin Ndreu, who officially should deal with the affairs of Lezha, has chosen to become Ulsi Manja's lawyer – not in court, but on Facebook. With a long status filled with emojis, the mayor convinces us that Ulsi does not need to be a minister, because he is much more than that: he is a "guardian of the law" and "honor of the nation". (We have seen what guardians the law has had these years, there is no need for comment).
Ndreu describes his friend as an early comrade-in-arms in the “trench against crime.” Today, since he no longer holds a government position, he has an even more prestigious status – chairman of the Laws Committee. He tells us that draft laws are filtered there “one by one.” Yes, he is right: the filtering has been so fine that everything the government needed has passed without a single hitch.
With a tone somewhere between paternalism and provincial pride, Ndreu reassures us: “Don’t cry over Ulsi’s troubles, because he has none. You will have the troubles because you can’t stand his success.” And success, according to him, is the “dizziness” investments coming to Lezha. So dizzying, that we have to take a deep breath before we see what road, staircase or garden they will inaugurate with a red banner next week.
In the end, Ndreu sets a new standard for Albanian politics: it is not measured by posts, but by the “investment meter.” This means that, even if one day Ulsiu is forced to retire, it is enough to take a meter and measure Pjerin’s investments in Lezha for the people to understand “his glory.”
So, to cut it short: Ulsi without posts, Pjerini without measure. A perfect duet of Albanian politics – where losses and victories are measured by imaginary investments and the "honor of the nation" is declared with emojis on Facebook.
