The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has commented on American investments in the South of the country by the company of Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama of political use of this agreement.
Speaking outside Parliament, Berisha stated that Rama has attempted to exert political influence through investments, but according to him, this attempt has failed.
He said that his government has also previously offered the island of Sazan for investment, including an offer to former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, which was accepted but did not materialize due to the financial crisis.
"My government also offered Sazan. Fatos Nano offered it before me. Berlusconi accepted it, but the financial crisis struck and it did not materialize," Berisha said.
According to him, Rama did not sign the agreement for Sazani before the election of Donald Trump as US president, as predicted.
"As for Zvernec, it is a private matter with the owners. No public land will be given. As for Sazan, we support American investments, but Rama did this for political influence and failed. If he had not failed, he would not have been forced to do what I call 'the gas of the soil' with the American president," Berisha said.
He added that he has no objection to the realization of the investments if they move forward, but accused the prime minister of fraud and mismanagement of the process.
"If the agreement was to be signed before Trump's election, Rama cheated and did not sign it before the elections," the opposition leader declared.
