The leader of the Together Movement, Arlind Qori, has announced the organization of a protest on Thursday, at 6:00 PM, in front of the Albanian Parliament, calling on citizens to join what he describes as a direct confrontation with the government.
According to Qori, the government has ignored the interests of citizens, while priorities have shifted towards increasing the salaries of senior officials. “I don’t think the salaries of judges, ministers and MPs are the priority of our country,” he declared, emphasizing that the Assembly is the institution where citizen reaction should be focused.
Qori said that nothing is impossible if tens of thousands of citizens join the protest. “Politics is a balance of power and we seek the support of citizens to balance this balance of power,” he said, warning that a massive mobilization could change the parliamentary balance.
"If many citizens gather on Thursday, I assure you that Rama will no longer have a parliamentary majority," said Qori.
The call of the Together Movement comes in a context of protests scattered across the opposition front. The Democratic Party continues protests every Monday under the leadership of Sali Berisha, while earlier Adriatik Lapaj held a symbolic protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, alone with a chair, after Berisha's protest was suppressed.
Thursday's protest is expected to show whether Arlind Qori's call will succeed in turning into a real force on the streets.
