The Assembly has officially initiated procedures to fill the vacant seat on the Constitutional Court, following the resignation of former member Elsa Toska.
Toska left office a year ago, creating a vacancy in the composition of the Constitutional Court. In an official announcement made public this Tuesday, the Assembly announced that a competition for applications has been opened, in accordance with the deadlines and procedures set out in the Constitution.
According to the envisaged process, the candidacies will first be subject to verification by the Law Commission. Applicants have a one-month deadline to submit the documentation, which will then be evaluated and ranked by the Judicial Appointments Council (JAC).
"Notice of the re-announcement by the Assembly of the opening of the application procedure for the vacant position of member of the Constitutional Court, due to the end of the mandate of former judge Elsa Toska," the Assembly statement reads.
The election of a new member requires the approval of the candidacy by a qualified majority of 84 votes in Parliament.
