The Ombudsman, Endrit Shabani, met with the Ambassador of the European Union to Albania, Silvio Gonzato.
As reported by this institution, during the conversation, Shabani outlined his vision for a more proactive institution, emphasizing the accountability of public administration and the protection of voiceless citizens. He underlined that the role of the Ombudsman will be essential in fighting to ensure that the country's reforms are translated into true European standards for Albanian citizens.
For his part, Ambassador Gonzato praised the new and dynamic approach of the institution, and reconfirmed the strong and unwavering support of the European Union, considering the Ombudsman as a strategic partner in monitoring the standards of Chapter 23.
"Protecting rights in education and health are our priority, as they directly affect the daily life, well-being and dignity of every citizen, " said Mr. Shabani.
"In addition, we remain committed to raising our voice against judicial delays and guaranteeing equal access to justice. But this requires the establishment of a penalization mechanism for public institutions that ignore the recommendations of the Ombudsman," said the Ombudsman.
To further strengthen local democracy, the Ombudsman welcomed Ambassador Gonzato's proposal that this institution have an active role in the upcoming territorial reform process, to protect the rights of local communities.
In conclusion, the parties agreed to deepen their cooperation through concrete projects that increase the impact of independent institutions.
