VNA has obtained a document from the Tirana Local Police Directorate that lists the list of 20 public schools where the "Smart City" project will be implemented, a surveillance system with cameras and artificial intelligence.
The document contains the names of the schools, location, number of cameras, coordinates and number of students in each institution.
According to the document, the schools where the cameras are expected to be installed are:

2. Technical-Economic High School – Myrtezim Këllici Street – 19 cameras – 600 students
3. 9-year “Marie Logoreci” – Ali Shefqeti Street – 12 cameras – 478 students
4. “Aleks Buda” High School – Gjergj Legisi Street, Lapraka – 20 cameras – 700 students
5. 9-year “Kongresi i Manastirit” – Tre Dëshmorët Street – 20 cameras – 1460 students
6. Kamëz Vocational High School – Montreal Street – 17 cameras – 1540 students
7. 9-year “Ramazan Jarani” – Selaudin Bekteshi – 17 cameras – 478 students
8. “Karl Gega” Vocational High School – Bedri Karapici St. – 30 cameras – 857 students
9. “Ibrahim Rugova” High School – “Nën Tereza” Boulevard, Kamëz – 23 cameras – 1116 students

The project is being implemented by the company "Presight AI", part of the G42 group, based in the United Arab Emirates.
According to a BIRN investigation, this company has raised concerns in the United States Congress due to its ties to Chinese companies.
The project has also been contested by digital rights experts for the risks it could pose to citizens' privacy, due to the use of artificial intelligence and data analysis.
On the other hand, according to previous statements by state institutions, the "Smart City" project aims to increase public safety and prevent crime through advanced technology.
Initially, the project was estimated to cost $60 million, but then its cost doubled, making it one of the largest investments in urban surveillance systems in Albania.
