Former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, accused of abuse of office in the “Buka Sh.a.” case, has decided to return to one of the favorite sports of Albanian politicians: writing letters to journalists. In a long email, he says that he is a victim of political pressure and that he is suffering from “personal and family persecution.”
Ahmetaj recalls that the prosecutor in the case initially accused him of damaging the state, but then withdrew the charge, calling it a "slip." "Is it a slip or is it ridiculous? Or are they accusing me, because they have turned me into a target?" asks the former deputy prime minister, trying to present himself as a target of justice reform.
In his explanations, he talks about the division of the file “at the prosecutor’s whim”, about the “non-implementation” of Constitutional Court decisions that he actually respected, as well as about a revaluation that tripled both state and private assets. In the end, the conclusion is clear: he has not broken any law, but someone “needs” to put him in prison.
The entire letter ends with a jab at the media, which according to him cannot reflect his “positions.” The irony is that the very media that he once had at his disposal when he was deputy prime minister and that generously enjoyed government advertising no longer seem so useful to him today. Now, amidst the luxury of accumulated wealth, Ahmetaj again seeks their service as a platform for victimization.
