Mark Nika, the uncle of Aleks Nika who was killed in the January 21, 2011 protest, spoke to the media after the meeting he had this Tuesday with the head of SPAK, Klodian Braho.
He said that it is unacceptable that 15 years have passed and the case in question has not yet been closed. Furthermore, he added, not all the people who have knowledge have been summoned to the Special Prosecution Office.
"There is no one on trial. SPAK says we are working. We are waiting now, they have it on the clock how the investigation will go, we have our claims. Our observation is that the investigation should be faster, all the people who have knowledge have not been summoned, starting with the prime minister's office at the time, the guards. It is a serious crime, we will pursue it continuously until the truth is revealed. We have requested, for example, the former secretary of the council of ministers, the IT server employees, they have not been summoned because I don't know why they say they are unnecessary. The investigation is superficial for me, 15 years is a long time. We will take all measures to clarify the matter," he said.
Regarding the tape submitted to SPAK, he said that it has not yet been sent for re-inspection.
"The tape is for re-examination, it seems they haven't sent it yet. I asked to meet with Mr. Braho. We can't wait. This matter should have been concluded, it is unacceptable, because all Albanians are asking why the murderers are not going to court. The murderers are distinguished from the organization of the protest. The state is responsible. It does not organize to go and be killed," he added.
The investigations for January 21 were resumed by SPAK after a recommendation was previously made by the Strasbourg Court. The Tirana Prosecution Office initially declared its lack of competence to resume the investigations and the case was transferred to SPAK.
