While the interview phase of 14 candidates competing for the position of Director General of the State Police was taking place, the US charge d'affaires, Nancy VanHorn, arrived at the Ministry of Interior.
Although no official details have been provided about her visit, her presence is likely related to the importance of the selection process for the Director General of the State Police.
Today, the candidates are going through the interview phase by a special commission established at the Ministry of Interior. They are being interviewed by a team consisting of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, one of the Deputy Ministers of Interior, and the Director General of the AMP.
We recall that the competition opened immediately after the resignation of the former director, Ilir Proda, who has been accused several times by opposition representatives of connections with exponents of organized crime. However, these remain within the framework of political statements, as long as there is no official investigation into these allegations.
On the other hand, it remains a fact that SPAK has expressed concern several times that its investigations have been exposed by representatives of the State Police. This has also been evidenced by the investigations of the Special Prosecution, where officers suspected of serving criminal groups have been arrested.
In this context, Nancy VanHorn's visit is seen as an indicator of interest in a credible selection process, where a leader who enjoys the trust of law enforcement institutions, including SPAK, is appointed at the head of the State Police.
