The Durrës Court has sentenced Hysen Meta, found guilty of the murder of his father, Pëllumb Meta, to life imprisonment. He will serve his sentence in a high-security prison.
In the same case, the court sentenced his brother, Amarildo Meta, to 5 years in prison, while his sister, Hygerta Meta, was sentenced to 8 years in prison, down from the 30 years initially requested by the prosecution. The victim's wife, Blerina Meta, was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
The serious incident occurred on February 10, 2024, when Pëllumb Meta was murdered by his family members. Investigations revealed that the crime was planned in detail, while the victim's body was buried in the cattle shed, causing great shock in public opinion.
DECISION:
1. The guilty plea of the defendant Hy.M. for committing the criminal offense of "Murder due to family relations", provided for by Article 79/c of the Criminal Code, and his sentence to life imprisonment.
2. The guilty plea of the defendant Hy.M. for committing the criminal offense of "Unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition", provided for by Article 278/4 of the Criminal Code, and his sentence to 3 (three) years of imprisonment.
3. Dismissal of the charge against the defendant Hy.M. for committing the criminal offense "Hiding and destroying a corpse", committed in collaboration, provided for by Articles 303 and 25 of the Criminal Code.
4. Pursuant to Article 55 of the Criminal Code, in consolidating sentences, the conviction of the defendant Hy.M. with a single sentence of life imprisonment.
5. The guilty declaration of the defendant Hyg.M. for committing the criminal offense "Actions that impede the discovery of the truth" provided for by Article 301 of the Criminal Code, and her sentence to 3 (three) years of imprisonment.
6. The guilty plea of the defendant Hyg.M. for committing the criminal offense of "Hiding and Disposing of a Corpse", committed in collaboration, as provided for by Articles 303 and 25 of the Criminal Code, and her sentence to 5 (five) years of imprisonment.
7. Pursuant to Article 55 of the Criminal Code, in concurrence of sentences, the sentence of the defendant Hyg.M. with a single sentence of 8 (eight) years of imprisonment.
8. The guilty plea of the defendant AM for committing the criminal offense of "Hiding and Disposing of a Corpse", committed in collaboration, as provided for by Articles 303 and 25 of the Criminal Code, and his sentence to 5 (five) years of imprisonment.
9. The guilty plea of the defendant BM for committing the criminal offense of "Actions that impede the discovery of the truth", provided for by Article 301 of the Criminal Code, and her sentence to 3 (three) years of imprisonment.
10. The defendant Hy.M. shall serve his sentence in a high-security prison, while the defendants Hyg.M., AM and BM shall serve their sentence in a regular security prison.
11. In application of Article 190 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, regarding material evidence, to be disposed of according to the reasoning part of this decision.
12. The costs incurred in the preliminary investigation phase and the court costs are jointly and severally charged to the defendants Hy.M, Hyg.M, AM and BM.
13. An appeal against this decision is allowed at the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction of Tirana within 15 (fifteen) days, starting from the day after the communication of the reasoned decision.
