
At least 16 people were arrested, 9 others were declared wanted, while two companies were criminally prosecuted, as they were suspected of engaging in illegal activities in waste processing and ferrochrome production, causing environmental pollution.
9 of those arrested are foreign citizens, who have managerial, technical and employee roles. Meanwhile, the shareholders of the companies are being sought. "From the intensive investigations, as well as the inspections carried out in cooperation with the National Inspectorate for Territorial Protection, it has resulted that two commercial entities, which were operating in the area of the former Metalurgjiku, Bradashesh, Elbasan, have violated environmental legislation, polluting the air, water and land, as well as not respecting the rules for integrated waste management and the processing of battery waste", the police announced. For the violations found regarding integrated waste management, fines were imposed during the inspections and the activities of both entities were suspended until the legal requirements were met.
