After a year-long investigation, the Durrës Prosecution Office is expected to open today the 102 containers located in the Porto Romano industrial area, in order to verify their contents and determine whether they are hazardous waste or not.
The containers are scheduled to be opened at noon, while the samples taken will undergo laboratory analysis to precisely determine the composition and level of hazard.
We recall that the case was initially reported by VNA after concerns raised by the Basel network, which raised suspicions that hazardous waste imported from abroad may be inside the containers.
The containers returned to the port of Durres at the end of October and, after about ten days of being queued, were moved to the Porto Romano area, where they are under strict police surveillance and 24-hour monitoring with security cameras.
