Ejona Gurbardhi and Suela Sulkaj, two lawyers who competed for the position of Director General of the State Police, have been disqualified from the race, because they did not meet the criteria. According to the law, one of the criteria to run for this position is to be active in the ranks of the State Police. Both ladies, lawyers by profession, despite their experience, were not in the ranks of the police, as a result they have been disqualified.
There are 14 senior police officials remaining in the race, aiming to replace Ilir Proda, following his dismissal from office.
The commission, headed by Deputy Minister of Interior Silva Caka and including Eduart Merkaj, head of the AMP, and Kleida Ngjela, Secretary General of the Ministry, will meet next week to decide on the progress of the process.
