An accident resulting in the death of a miner occurred on Wednesday, at around 11:30, in the Bulqiza mine. The victim has been identified as Kujtim Dangri, 38, who lost his life while working in the mine's galleries. The circumstances of the incident have not yet been clarified. Police announced that the investigation team is at the scene and is investigating to clarify the causes of the accident.
The miner was transported to Bulqiza hospital, but showed no signs of life. Medical sources told BIRN that the worker had suffered multiple injuries and, despite their efforts, nothing could be done to save him.
According to data in the Mining Permit Registry, the accident occurred in the galleries of the company “TRUE – L Shpk”, which is owned by Roland Kaci and Lejdon Gjoni. Kaci also holds the position of administrator of the entity. Until the publication of this news, the company was not available for a statement on the circumstances of the accident.
This accident is the fourth fatal mining accident in the Bulqiza and Klos area this year. Just a month ago, a 66-year-old man lost his life while working in one of the chrome galleries in Bulqiza. Also a few months ago, a young worker lost his life while working in a chrome enrichment plant in Klos, and his body was found only after several weeks of intensive searches, in which local residents and the Armed Forces of Albania and Kosovo participated.
According to official data, after construction, the mining and quarrying sector remains among the most dangerous, accounting for around 18% of reported accidents at work in 2024. /BIRN/
