A 47-year-old man of Albanian origin was arrested by Italian authorities today after being caught transporting a significant amount of narcotics. According to local media reports, the Albanian was traveling in his car when he was stopped by police patrols at a checkpoint near the motorway toll booth in the San Gregorio di Catania area. During the search of the vehicle, the blue uniforms discovered and seized over 27 kilograms of cocaine, a large quantity that is suspected to have been destined for the illegal drug market.
After the seizure of the narcotics and the initial procedures, the 47-year-old was arrested and immediately escorted to the police station. The Italian authorities have decided to leave him in prison, where he will continue to be held pending further legal proceedings against him.
Preliminary investigations are ongoing to discover whether the Albanian was part of a wider trafficking network and what the final destinations of the seized drugs were.
