After several days on the run, the three brothers accused of involvement in the Borizia massacre have been surrendered and arrested by Greek police. The arrest comes after a wide-ranging investigation operation involving over 400 police officers deployed to the village of 500 residents, where armed forces are conducting searches and searching for weapons used in the bloody incident that shook the area.
The youngest of the three arrested, a 19-year-old man who was serving in the military, has been a difficult link to trace. According to police sources, he had contacted his commander on Saturday, requesting permission and providing an excuse for the disappearance of his motorcycle during a house search. After discovering his involvement in the massacre, the police managed to track him down through the phone he had used, locating him hiding in a certain hotel. Meanwhile, during the preparation of the operation, the young man’s phone rang and he disappeared within minutes from the hotel. In connection with this case, the two hotel owners (father and son) were arrested by the police.
The operation also focused on a person close to the 19-year-old, who was under surveillance to prevent possible encounters with him. Following these actions, the three brothers surrendered shortly after 18:00, being taken to the Heraklion Police Department. They are awaiting prosecution and will then request a deadline from the investigator to present a defense or request for forgiveness.
Those arrested include:
The 27-year-old owner of the house where the bomb exploded,
29-year-old brother,
The 19-year-old younger brother, who is currently serving in the military.
In addition to them, the fourth brother is being treated after being injured in the fight, while their cousin is also accused of involvement in the incident. Police forces continue intensive operations in the village, searching for the weapons used in the massacre, while investigations remain open to clarify all the circumstances of the crime and to identify any other person involved in the event.
