A Kosovar citizen, Sabit Mehmeti, 27, was arrested by the Border Police in Morina after attempting to cross illegally into Albania. He was wanted by German authorities on charges of “fraud.”
During detailed checks at entry and exit points into Albanian territory, the Morina Border Police, in cooperation with the Kukes Local Police Directorate, stopped Mehmet at the entrance to the country.
Further verifications, supported by Interpol Tirana and information exchanged with German authorities, confirmed that an international arrest warrant had been issued against him by the Munich Court for the criminal offense of "fraud", which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Interpol Tirana, in coordination with German authorities, is continuing the procedures for the extradition of the 27-year-old to Germany.
