A major police and emergency services operation was underway in Essen, Germany, today after a stabbing attack at a vocational college. According to German media, including Bild, the attacker is a 17-year-old from Kosovo, who was previously reported as 18, but his age was later confirmed. The young man was a student at the vocational college and is suspected of approaching a teacher and stabbing her before running away from the scene. Witnesses reported that the attacker was located in a park about three kilometers from the school. When a special operations unit (SEK) approached him, the 17-year-old is suspected of running towards officers holding a knife. Police shot him, seriously injuring him. He had to be intubated at the scene and was later pronounced dead. At least ten students who were near the scene suffered emotional shock after witnessing the incident. Authorities are continuing investigations to clarify the full circumstances of the attack and the police response.
