40-year-old Albanian Soni Pepa, suspected of involvement in international drug trafficking, has been arrested in Santo Domingo. He had been hiding in Latin America for a long time, and was caught by Interpol with an Albanian passport, Italian documents, five encrypted phones and a large amount of cash.
Pepa was wanted by SPAK and his name is linked to a shipment of 11 tons of cocaine, of which 600 kilograms were seized in Rotterdam on November 7-8, 2020. International investigations also link him to the financing of another 10 kilograms of cocaine in the same city.
According to reports, the 40-year-old was part of a transnational criminal group operating in several countries in Europe and South America, with the aim of trafficking large quantities of narcotics. The seized cargo had left the port of Villetas in Paraguay, with the final destination being the port of Antwerp in Belgium.
Following his arrest, Pepa was taken to the General Directorate of Immigration in Santo Domingo, where his deportation is being prepared in coordination with OCN-INTERPOL.
