Yesterday afternoon, lawyer Ulian Barjami was released from his cell, where he remained for three days by order of Judicial Police Officers. His arrest was made following a complaint by prosecutor Gjergji Ceka, who claimed that he had been threatened by Barjami during a court session at the Elbasan Court.
In connection with this event, the High Inspectorate of Justice has initiated verifications on its own initiative to examine the legality of the procedural actions that led to the lawyer's detention. Inspectors from the High Inspectorate of Justice have arrived in Elbasan today to receive and analyze the documentation related to the case.
The Elbasan Court yesterday ruled for the immediate release of Barjam, stressing the lack of legal grounds for keeping him in solitary confinement. This decision has sparked debate and concerns in the legal community and public opinion regarding the handling of such cases.
Meanwhile, the Elbasan Prosecutor's Office has declared incompetence and sent the case to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, arguing a conflict of interest, since the lawsuit against Barjam was filed by prosecutor Gjergji Ceka, who works in this prosecutor's office.
