The suspected perpetrator of the Finikounda double murder has been arrested by Greek police at his apartment in Kallithea. However, he has so far denied any involvement in the serious incident that shook Greece. Earlier on Tuesday morning, his 22-year-old friend surrendered to the Greek Anti-Corruption Bureau, accompanied by his lawyer, in connection with the case of the double murder that occurred at the Finikounda campsite on Sunday, October 5.
According to the young man's testimony, one of the victims — the owner of the campsite — had sexually harassed him in the summer of 2022, during a visit he had made to the same campsite. The 22-year-old's lawyer, Charalambos Lykoudis, spoke about the case, emphasizing that there was no financial motive for the attack, nor an inheritance issue, while the murder was the result of an attempt to intimidate the victim.
"The goal was not murder, but intimidation and extortion of money. The murder happened spontaneously," the lawyer said.
According to him, the motorcycle driver had no connection to the victim, unlike his 22-year-old client, who had had, as he called it, "a personal and painful relationship" with the owner of the campsite.
Lawyer Lykoudis also explained that his client had attempted to intimidate the 68-year-old with an air pistol shortly before the murder occurred, something he himself admitted to the authorities.
"He came voluntarily and made himself available to justice. He is 22 years old, with no criminal record. There are no family ties or financial motives."
"He was a passenger on the motorcycle during the incident, the boy in shorts seen in the back seat," Lykoudis stated.
How the double murder at the campsite happened
The incident took place on the evening of October 5, 2025, at a campsite in Finikounda, where the perpetrator, with his face covered, forced his way into the reception where the 68-year-old owner was, along with his 60-year-old Albanian caretaker and an old friend. The armed perpetrator shot in cold blood at the owner, fatally wounding him, and then killed his friend who tried to flee the scene. At the time of the double murder, the owner's nephew was also at the campsite, who managed to escape by fleeing the scene of the crime. After several days of intensive investigations, the Greek police identified the perpetrator and arrested him at his apartment in Kallithea, while investigations continue to fully elucidate the motive and involvement of the accomplices in the tragic event that shocked Greek public opinion.
