The Tirana Court has sentenced juvenile Mario Përlleshaj to 16 years in prison for the murder of 15-year-old Martin Cani and the injury of his friend, Luis Mecaj. The prosecution had requested a 25-year prison sentence for the perpetrator.
The serious incident occurred on the premises of the "Fan Noli" school, where the minors clashed among themselves, without their families being informed about the clashes that were taking place. The quarrel between the young people escalated to the use of a knife.
As a result of the attack, Martin Cani was killed, while Luis Mecaj was injured and transported for medical assistance. After the investigation, the Prosecution filed charges of murder and serious injury against the minor, requesting a maximum sentence, but the court imposed a lower sentence than the prosecution's request.
The event shocked public opinion and raised strong concerns about violence among minors and safety in school environments.
