An officer of the National Bureau of Investigation must go to the Durrës detention center and make available to Mayor Erion Veliaj 65 thousand pages of the investigative file along with the facts and evidence that weigh on his shoulders, and on which SPAK has filed 13 criminal charges against the senior official.
In the first session of the merits, where Veliaj was not present, the trial panel led by Engjëllushe Tahiri ordered SPAK to make available to the defendant the acts of the file with which he claims he has not been familiarized. The request for familiarization with the materials of the file was also made at the session by the primarily appointed lawyer Valentina Teodorescu.
During the hearing, the court noted that some of the defendants and their lawyers were absent.
"My client is in a medically impossible situation, as she is pregnant, the doctor has forbidden her from coming to the trial. I am preparing the medical report to present to the court," said lawyer Maksim Haxhiaj, justifying the absence of the defendant Ajola Xoxa, Veliaj's wife.
Former socialist MP Klotilda Bushka was also absent from the process, although it turned out that she had been informed.
"She didn't want to appear. At the end of the document, there is a handwritten note that she took note," said her lawyer, Henrik Ligori.
Under such conditions, the GJKKO decided to postpone the process to March 24.
Erion Veliaj is accused by the Special Prosecution Office of a complex money laundering and corruption scheme.
Investigations show that he favored various businessmen from whom he received bribes that he passed on to companies or NGOs controlled by his wife Ajola Xoxa.
