The Special Court rejected the next request made by former President Ilir Meta to relax the security measure. The lawyer said that it is absurd that Meta is being held in detention, when the investigation has been completed, while he should be allowed to come out and lead the second largest opposition party in the country.
He has been in custody since October 2024 and is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets. Meta is being tried in a trial together with his ex-wife, ex-mother-in-law and two other people.
