The next hearing for the "Veliaj" case will be held at the GJKKO, where the defendants are the mayor of Tirana, his wife Ajola Xoxa, as well as 28 other people and entities. In this hearing, the defense presentation by Veliaj himself, his wife, and businessmen Gentjan Sula and Shkëlqim Fusha, along with the companies they represent, is expected to continue.
During previous hearings, Veliaj stated that he was not fully familiar with the files, as he was not provided with a physical copy, but only a USB that allegedly cannot be used in the cell due to the lack of a laptop. He also requested not to be kept in a "glass cage" during the hearings, but next to his lawyer, a request that the GJKKO rejected.
The December 5 session concluded with the defense presentations by former socialist MP Klotilda Bushka, as well as by the legal representatives of the companies "Byla" and "Eventus".
Veliaj has been in custody since February and is accused of money laundering, failure to declare assets, passive corruption in nine episodes, abuse of office and introducing prohibited items into a prison. He continues to exercise the duties of mayor by decision of the Constitutional Court and has denied the charges, calling them unfounded.
