The mother of Mark Samson, the 23-year-old accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Ilaria Sula, has been sentenced to two years in prison for concealing the body. Nosr Manlapaz is accused of helping her son in the disappearance of the young woman's body after the crime that occurred on March 26.
Two days ago, the court approved the plea agreement, giving Manlapaz a suspended sentence, a decision that was made within minutes. Meanwhile, the preliminary hearing for Mark Samson's trial is set for December 9.
The victim's family has reacted strongly to this decision. Ilaria's father, Flamur Sula, described the agreement as unjustified and insensitive to the family's pain.
"For us, this is not justice," he said. "We were devastated by what we saw and heard, a trial that lasted only five minutes. A person who cleaned up liters of my daughter's blood that had been flushed down the toilet... For us, this is not justice."
