At the Constitutional Court, the panel composed of rapporteur Sandër Beci, as well as Sonila Bejtja and Marsida Xhaferllari, is expected to meet and decide on the case of Belinda Balluku, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, against whom the Special Court has imposed security measures of suspension from exercising her function and a ban on leaving the country.
The College was previously headed by Olta Zaçaj, President of the Constitutional Court, who, due to the end of her mandate, left and was succeeded by Asim Vokshi. Therefore, Marsida Xhaferllari entered the College, who also exercises the duty of President until a new President is elected.
The Council of Ministers has requested the Constitutional Court to suspend the decision of the Special Court, in order for Ms. Balluku to be reinstated until the case is resolved on its merits.
The College is expected to decide on this issue today.
Balluku is the first serving deputy prime minister to be suspended from office. She is a defendant in the Llogara tunnel tender and under investigation for the Lot 4 Unaza e Madhe tender.
