Daniel Kinahan, one of the leading figures in international organized crime, has been arrested in Dubai on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by Irish authorities.
According to RTÉ reports, Kinahan, in his 40s, was arrested on April 15 after an extensive search and surveillance operation by Dubai police. UAE authorities confirmed the arrest of an Irish national wanted for involvement in an international organised crime network.
According to official sources, the arrest was made possible after the Irish authorities handed over a file describing the charges and suspected criminal activity of Kinahan. Based on this file, the Dubai Public Prosecution issued an arrest warrant and initiated proceedings for his extradition.
He was captured within 48 hours of the warrant being issued, while authorities emphasize that the operation was conducted in accordance with the bilateral extradition agreement between the two countries.
In a statement, An Garda Síochána called the arrest an important example of international cooperation in the fight against organised crime.
"This is a clear demonstration of the need for close cooperation between law enforcement agencies to crack down on international criminal networks," the official response states.
The case currently remains under the jurisdiction of the United Arab Emirates authorities, while legal proceedings for his extradition to Ireland are pending.
