US President Donald Trump has announced the achievement of a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, following a series of talks with the leaders of both countries.
In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump announced that he had communicated with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that the parties had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire.
According to him, the agreement is expected to enter into force at 5:00 PM, US Eastern Time, and aims to create space for the achievement of a broader peace agreement between the two countries.
Trump also announced that earlier this week, representatives from Israel and Lebanon met in Washington for the first time in more than 30 years, in the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
He added that he has engaged Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Rubio, and senior US military leaders to continue diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace between the parties.
