At least 47 women and girls have been killed on average every day during the war in Gaza, according to data released by the UN Women agency. The UN warns that the deaths continue six months after a fragile ceasefire was implemented.
More than 38,000 women and girls were killed in Gaza from October 2023 to December 2025, according to a report.
"Women and girls account for a much higher percentage of deaths than has been seen in previous conflicts in Gaza," Sophia Calthorpe, the agency's head of humanitarian action, told reporters in Geneva.
The agency expressed concern that the killings of women and girls have continued after the October ceasefire, although it does not know the exact number of victims due to incomplete data.
The October ceasefire ended two years of war, but left Israeli troops in control of a desert area that occupies more than half of the Gaza Strip, with Hamas in control of the remainder, a narrow coastal strip.
More than 750 Palestinians have been killed since then, according to local health officials, while militants have killed four Israeli soldiers. Israel and Hamas accuse each other of violating the ceasefire. Israel says the aim is to deter attacks by Hamas and other militant factions.
