
A serious incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in Gjakova, where as a result of gunfire, one person lost his life and another was injured. The incident was recorded at around 05:30 on “Vëllezërit Frashëri” street, while the victim has been identified as 38-year-old Rastim Binakaj.
According to initial information, another person, 29 years old, the victim's brother, was also injured, who was shot in the chest and was taken to hospital for treatment. Medical authorities confirmed the victim's death at the scene.
The suspect in the murder and injury is Nexhdet Zymberaj, owner of the “My Place” cafe. After the incident, he fled the scene in an unknown direction and is currently being sought by the Kosovo Police.
At the scene, police found and seized five spent shell casings, as well as a sharp instrument, suspected to be a knife. Regarding the case, police have launched investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The spokesperson for the Regional Police in Gjakova, Shermet Elezi, announced that the police were notified of the case at around 05:30 and that the relevant police units and the state prosecutor immediately arrived at the scene. He confirmed that one person died on the spot, while the other was sent for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the director of the Regional Police Directorate in Gjakova, Lumni Graishta, stated that the incident is suspected to have occurred in a bar in the Old Bazaar area, following a dispute between the bar owner and a customer. According to him, the suspect is a person known to the police and is currently on the run.
The Kosovo Police has announced that its units are searching for the suspect, while the necessary investigative procedures are being carried out at the scene under the supervision of the state prosecutor, with the aim of fully clarifying the incident.
