Shocking details have come to light about the circumstances of the serious injury to the German mayor of Herdecke, Iris Stalzer.
The perpetrator of the incident is said to have been her adopted daughter, who, according to German media reports, tortured her mother for hours.
Although it was initially reported that the 57-year-old was attacked by unknown men, the police investigation revealed that the perpetrator was her adopted daughter, who, in fact, was the one who called the authorities claiming to have found her mother bleeding in the living room of their home.
As it turned out, Iris Stalzer had 13 stab wounds to her upper body, as well as multiple lacerations and fractures to her skull.
Despite numerous injuries, the SPD politician survived and revealed the truth about the attack, which she told police was carried out by her adopted daughter.
As Bild reports, the 57-year-old politician confessed to being tortured by her adopted daughter in the basement of her house for hours.
According to the same source, Stalcher told police that the 17-year-old had stabbed him with two different knives. He had also hit him in the head with a heavy object and had burned his hair and clothes by setting them on fire with deodorant and a lighter.
Police found one of the knives used in the attack in the backpack of the 57-year-old's 15-year-old son, also adopted, as well as bloodstained clothes believed to belong to the perpetrator.
Stalcher was found in an armchair in the living room of her home, without it being explained yet how he managed to escape from the basement where the 17-year-old was being held.
However, forensic officers found evidence that attempts had been made to remove blood and other evidence from the area around the couch where the 57-year-old was found, raising suspicions that the area had been cleaned.
While the motive remains unclear, German media reported that there had been a dispute between the mother and her adopted children over the summer, with reports of domestic violence and the use of a knife.
