Israeli police have begun releasing Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli hostages held in Gaza, as outlined in the peace plan. Hundreds of officers are transferring nearly 2,000 people from five prisons, 250 lifers and 1,700 Gazans arrested after the October 7 attacks.
US President Donald Trump expressed confidence in the ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
"It will stay. I believe it will stay. They are tired of fighting," Trump told reporters, confirming his intention to travel to Israel and Egypt this weekend.
Meanwhile, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine have issued a statement declaring that they will not accept any "foreign domination" in the Gaza Strip under the peace plan.
“The governance of Gaza is a Palestinian issue,” the militias said in their statement, although they welcomed the commitment to reconstruction shown by several countries. The Islamist movements stressed that an agreement had been reached so far “on the implementation of the first phase” of the plan and pledged to continue working for the release of Palestinian prisoners who will not be released under the agreement with Tel Aviv.
