A massive exodus of civilians is being recorded in Gaza City, as crowds of Palestinians flee the area either on foot or by bicycles and vehicles, as the Israeli army continues its ground operation. Wednesday's airstrikes killed dozens of people in different parts of the Palestinian enclave.
Following assurances from Washington of its “unwavering” support, Israeli authorities announced on Tuesday the start of a large-scale ground and air operation aimed at neutralizing Hamas. The Palestinian organization’s attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, was the starting point of the war in Gaza.
In response, Israeli forces have launched extensive bombing operations that have flattened much of the coastal strip, leaving tens of thousands dead and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Since the start of the conflict, approximately two million residents have faced repeated displacement, often forced from their homes.
Pressure on the US in the UN Security Council
The Security Council is expected to vote again today on a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire and humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip, which is supported by most member states and is seeking approval despite repeated vetoes by Washington. The ten elected members of the Security Council began talks on the plan in late August, reacting to the UN's official declaration of a state of famine in the Palestinian enclave, which has suffered extensive destruction in Israel's nearly two-year war.
